Tuesday 15th June 2010, 11:14AM BST.
Armed police raided a Shropshire house in the hunt for a suspect after a woman was attacked in Shrewsbury. Four armed officers swooped on a property in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury.
The armed operation yesterday was sparked after a woman claimed she was attacked at an address in Farr Gardens, off Ditherington Road, at 1.30pm.
She was treated by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital but was later discharged. No details about the nature of her injuries have been given. No arrest has yet been made.
Police spokesman Richard Ewels said they were still trying to trace the suspect today and the armed police response was a “precautionary move based on information received”.
Chief Inspector Sarah Chaloner, of Shrewsbury police, said: “At 1.30pm on Monday ambulance alerted police to a call at an address in Ditherington where a female had reportedly been assaulted.
“In response to this, four armed police officers attended an address in Monkmoor in order to arrest the suspect. The matter was concluded without incident and the female having received treatment at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital was discharged.
“Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed a disturbance in the Ditherington Road/Farr Gardens area to contact police on 0300 333 3000.”
Murray MacGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We were called at 1.28pm to a road off Ditherington Road to reports a 38- year-old female had been assaulted.
“The woman was taken to hospital but we do not have any further information about her injuries.”
