Thousands set for RAF Cosford air show
Saturday 12th June 2010, 11:10AM BST.
Up to 60,000 visitors are set to descend on RAF Cosford tomorrow for a day of thrills at the base’s world famous air show.
Cosford Air Show regularly attracts tens of thousands of flight fans and this year the organisers have laid on a packed programme for the crowds.
An appearance by the world famous Red Arrows is a traditional highlight of the extravaganza but it was threatened this year following a training accident.
A last-minute about turn this week, however, means the team will, after all, entertain the crowds.
Bill Hartree, flying display director, said: “The team has been able to complete the training and has been given the public display authority required.”
The show will also be the first opportunity for the public to see Flight Lieutenant Kirsty Moore, the first woman member of the Arrows.
This year’s show features spectacular aerobatic teams entertaining crowds during a five-hour flying display.
Norman Branagh, Air Show co-ordinator, said: “We are pleased the Red Arrows will be making their appearance as usual this year and are looking forward to welcoming the rest of the line-up for this year’s air display.”
The first planes will take to the sky at 10.45am.

The event was marred for me byb the high handed and officious behaviour of the police as queues formed at the railway station amidst heavy rain in the aftrenonn.Hundreds were pelted with rain while the police appeared indifferent to their discomfort and prevented -without justification -their access to trains
I shall not attend again in view of the unnecessary discomfirt endured as a result of uniformed thugs

We travelled last year by train and it was the worst experience we have had, the trains were full, didn’t stop at the stations avertised and generally a bad journey.
So this year we went in our car and what a joy, we arrived at 8am and flowed in with no wait, we had to have our car checked on the way in(not a bad thing tho) we were then parked right in the flight path close to the loo, great when you have small children and close to the trade stands, when it rained we had cover and could still enjoy the show also as the rain came we jumped in the car and left the show at 4.20pm and arrived home at 5pm in Donnington all with great smiles and dry heads! hopefully Mr Harvey will look at this as a good way to visit next year and continue to enjoy a great day out.

I enjoyed the RAF band and the gymnastics display. The majority of trade stands were a waste of space. As for the display, I enjoyed the Red Arrows and the other team displays. No Vulcan, no Gloster Meteor, no Lancaster made for some disappointment. The sudden cloudburst sent thousands scurrying for the exit at 4pm resulting in a gridlock that lasted over an hour and a half.We were then directed through country lanes on a round trip through Shifnal and Allbrighton and back to the entrance of RAF Cosford before getting on to the M54.I managed to get over 200 pictures and clocked up a round trip of 317 miles.I will be back next month for the LMA show!
