Changes for Sun to shine
Friday 11th June 2010, 7:00PM BST.
Plans for a £100,000 development at a pub formerly owned by, reputedly, the UK’s oldest landlady have been given the go ahead.
The Sun Inn, at Leintwardine, near Ludlow, was run by Flossie Lane for 74 years until her death aged 94 last June.
Nick Davis, of Hobson’s Brewery at Cleobury Mortimer, and Gary Seymour, from the Fiddler’s Elbow chip shop in Leintwardine, formed a consortium to make sure the pub remained in local hands.
Mr Davis said today they had planning permission and listed building consent for a range of works which would cost at least £100,000.
He said: “We’re going to develop a timber-framed bar area and garden at the rear with new disabled access toilets. We’ve got planning consent to put solar panels on the roof and incorporate quite a lot of sustainable technology.”
He said: “We are maintaining what is there but are developing the commercial viability of the premises.”
