Telford ice rink lease to be sold
Wednesday 9th June 2010, 12:00PM BST.
Council bosses are selling the lease to Telford Ice Rink – with the demand that the new operators fork out millions to revamp the venue, it was revealed today.
However, ownership of the town centre building will remain in the hands of Telford & Wrekin Council.
The lease is to be sold to operators who can afford to improve the facilities, renovate the rink and create a new frontage facing onto Main Street.
The decision to sell the lease forms part of the council’s £250 million plans to enhance the Southwater area of Telford Town Centre.
The council today said any potential operator should have a successful track record of managing and improving ice rinks with proof of being able to deliver multi-million pound investment plans.
Councillor Stephen Bentley, the council’s cabinet member for active lifestyles, said the opportunity for investors was significant.
