No fatal crash witnesses come forward

Police investigating a crash in which a Shropshire motorcyclist died on the Isle of Man today said that no witnesses to the incident had yet come forward.

Mat Alexander Evans, of The Grove, Minsterley, near Shrewsbury, died on Friday in a collision at the Mountain Box between 7.50am and 8.18am.

The 29-year-old father-of-one was riding a blue, red and white Honda Fireblade.

The incident happened the day before the opening motorcycle races of the famous Isle of Man TT.

Detective Inspector Terry Stephen said that Mr Evans died as a result of him coming off his motorcycle while attempting to negotiate the left-hand bends.

He said they were still investigating the cause of the collision and were pursuing “many lines” of inquiry.

He said it was also unclear whether any other vehicle was involved or on that part of the TT course at the time the crash happened.

The family of firefighter Mr Evans paid tribute to him yesterday as a “super person” and said the entire village of Minsterley had been left reeling by the tragedy. Terry and Denise Evans, Mat’s aunt and uncle, said their nephew, who leaves an 11-year-old daughter, was a man who lived “life to the full” and was much loved by his family and friends.

The former Mary Webb school pupil was described as a keen motorsport enthusiast who also had a great love of the outdoors.
