Hundreds set for Severn Hospice charity walk
Saturday 5th June 2010, 11:42AM BST.
Hundreds of women were today making final preparations to take part in a 10k charity walk in Telford.
Tens of thousands of pounds are expected to be raised for the Severn Hospice in Telford at the midnight event.
Fundraising events organiser at the hospice Sarah Hawthorne said: “More than 500 women have signed up to take part in the walk and the atmosphere is going to be electric.
“There will be more than 125 volunteers tonight doing everything from marshalling the route to welcoming walkers back in the early hours of the morning.
“Women will start signing in at TCAT from 10.30pm. The night will be hosted by BBC Radio Shropshire’s Jim Hawkins and the schedule includes music, face painting and an aerobics warm up.”
Christina Graham, whose husband was a patient at the hospice, will speak to the walkers before they set off to let them know what a huge difference their sponsorship will make to local families.
