Shropshire police cadets awarded the MBE
Wednesday 2nd June 2010, 10:55AM BST.
Members of a Shropshire police cadets group were celebrating today after being told they are to be awarded an MBE for volunteer organisations.
The Telford Volunteer Police Cadets is one of 103 UK groups to win this year’s Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The national honour recognises outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others.
The police cadets have received the award for their work in the local community and more specifically for the work they do every year at the Crucial Crew workshops in the town.
Speaking of their success, Constable Vicky Ridgewell, Telford Volunteer Police Cadet coordinator, said: “To receive this award is a fantastic honour and it is a fitting tribute to the work not just of our present cadets, but also all those that have served with us before.”
Winners of this year’s award were selected from 341 groups.
