Yobs throw brick at man in Telford

A man was hit by a brick in Shropshire moments after telling a gang of youths he had no cigarettes to give them, police said today.

The 28-year-old was walking along Silkin Way in Madeley, Telford, when he was stopped by a group of three youths and asked for a cigarette.

Officers said the man told the youths, believed to be aged between 17 and 20, he did not have any and continued walking.

Moments later he was struck just below the neck with a brick. The three youths fled the scene on foot.

The incident is alleged to have happened between 9pm and 9.15pm yesterday.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: “The victim managed to run away but he was left with quite a defined red mark on the top of his back.

“The victim believes he was followed by the men after being asked for the cigarette.

“After throwing the brick, the offenders made off towards Madeley centre.

“The police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything last night.”

The attackers were all white and wearing hoodies.

The man who threw the brick is believed to have been wearing grey clothing.

Anyone with information is urged to call Telford Police on 0300 3333000 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
