Monday 31st May 2010, 11:29AM BST.
A body has been found in a fire-hit Mid Wales cottage, police confirmed today.
Officers said they would not confirm the identity of the body discovered at Ysgubor Goch cottage, near Welshpool Golf Club.
The blaze at the cottage started on Thursday morning and there were fears that someone was inside the building.
Fire crews were unable to carry out a full investigation of the property for some time because of the level of damage to the building.
Expert search and rescue teams worked at the cottage to shore up the damage to allow a full inspection to take place.
Dyfed-Powys Police has now confirmed a body was found in the wreckage of the home.
A spokesman said: “Following a scene investigation into the fire at a house adjacent to Welshpool Golf Course, police can confirm a fatality has occurred. The examination was carried out jointly by fire service specialists, a police scene examiner and a forensic expert.
“Formal identification has not taken place although the family of the occupant of the address are being kept informed of the circumstances. At this time the investigation into the cause of the fire continues alth-ough the police are not treating the death as suspicious.
“The coroner has been informed and a post mortem examination will take place early this week.
“No details will be released of the occupant until identification has taken place.”
