Men cheat death in M54 plunge
Sunday 30th May 2010, 8:27PM BST.
Two men cheated death when their car careered off a bridge on Shropshire’s M54 and plunged 30ft before landing on its roof.
The BMW convertible suffered extensive damage after it travelled through trees and crashed on a road below the motorway.
The men, both believed to be in their 20s, only suffered multiple minor injuries in the incident which happened between junctions 6 and 7 at Wellington at about 7.55pm on Saturday. The car came to rest in Golf Links Lane, Wellington.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman John Hawker said: “The road is around 30ft below the motorway.
“Both men were transferred by ambulances to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
He added: “Considering the damage to the vehicle in the crash, and the length of the fall, the occupants of the car were fortunate not to have suffered more serious or even fatal injuries.”
Meanwhile, police, paramedics and firefighters were called to a crash on the A458 at Alveley near Bridgnorth on Saturday evening.
And a collision involving two vehicles closed a minor road in Chetwynd Aston yesterday.
