Villages in plan for 500 homes

Five hundred homes could be built in two Shropshire villages under plans to make the county a key development site in the West Midlands.

A report drawn up by council chiefs as part of the Shropshire Core Strategy, says that in order to meet regional targets for housebuilding Pontesbury and Minsterley, near Shrewsbury, could be forced to take some of the largest allocations of homes in rural areas.

It says a total of 6,500 homes and 90 hectares of land has been allocated for Shrewsbury, but in addition two of the town’s largest surrounding villages are set to be swelled by a significant amount of new inhabitants.

The report says: “The emerging requirements for development in the central Shropshire area include approximately 8,500 new homes and about 95-105 hectares of employment land over the period 2006-2026.

The report outlines several options for the balance of development in both villages, which could range from a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 400 homes in either village. The strategy is a planning blueprint that will help shape the development of Shropshire over the next 15 to 20 years.

It sets out a long-term vision and will be used to guide planning decisions.

The Core Strategy also proposes 1,000 homes in eastern Shropshire to meet the needs of servicemen and women and 113 caravan pitches for travellers.

Residents are now being asked for their feedback during the consultation period.

Response forms are available from www.shropshire.gov.uk or by calling 0345 6789004. They should be returned by June 25.

minsterely yes, because its already modern and over developed and ugly but pontesbury must be spared from this as its a pretty nice town in the AONB and needs preserving with old buildings and only one or two complementary modern homes built with traditional materials like stone cladding

the photo above must never be allowed to happen, no more barrett home clone towns in our medieval countryside please

So what if it’s in the AONB, so is most of South Shropshire! Unfortunately incomers wanting second homes are picking up whatever properties are available and our young people are forced to move out of South Shropshire for employment and housing. Shropshire Council needs to ignore the nimby brigade and bring some decent development to the area between Shrewsbury and Ludlow to provide jobs and services to keep the younger generation in this area – otherwise it will be a geriatric graveyard within a couple of decades.

Its an AONB for a reason, so lets keep it that way, there are other areas of shropshire that can accommodate such building. And yes, decent being the operative word not just the run of the mill blank sparce boring houses we see today, no soul.
If it wasnt for the so called nimbies then we’ll have nothing left so all power to them.
