Motorcyclist dies in crash
Tuesday 25th May 2010, 10:00AM BST.
A motorcyclist in his 40s died despite desperate efforts to save him after he was involved in a collision with a car in Shifnal. The accident happened in Haughton Road.
Police believe the driver of a white van could hold crucial information about the crash, which happened shortly before 1pm yesterday.
They have appealed for the driver to come forward.
The victim, who has not yet been formally identified, was riding a Suzuki machine which collided with a Citroen Saxo.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Suzie Fothergill said two senior ambulance officers in rapid response vehicles and two ambulances were sent to the scene, along with the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.
She added: “On arrival at the scene crews found a motorcycle and a car that had been in collision.
“Crews immediately carried out resuscitation attempts on the motorcyclist. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed deceased at the scene.”
Inspector Clive Eastwood of West Mercia Police said the Saxo driver, a woman from Shifnal, suffered cuts and grazes.
The road was closed for several hours and was reopened just after 4pm.
West Mercia Police officers are investigating the circumstances.
Sergeant Pete Jones, senior investigating officer, said: “I would urge anyone who saw the collision, or the circumstances leading up to it, to contact Shrewsbury police station on 0300 333 3000 as a matter of urgency.
“We particularly want to speak to the driver of a white van which we believe was travelling in front of the motorcycle.”
