Letter: I think that the new coalition government is the best thing that has happened in British politics in my life time. Let’s just hope that Dave and Nick have the guts to live up to our (my) expectations.

They talk of sweeping through the statute book and getting rid of unsuitable laws. Here are a few suggestions to start with:

Get rid of the law allowing parking on double yellow lines with a disabled badge. Reason. If my car causes an obstruction on a double yellow line, so does theirs.

Get rid of laws and by-laws preventing me from wearing a full face balaclava or hood in a public place or shopping centre. Reason; there is nothing in my religion that says I must not wear attire that prevents me from being identifiable. Just as there is nothing in the Muslim religion that says they must cover themselves from head to foot so that they are completely hidden. It is a matter of choice, just like my balaclava, but my full face balaclava is illegal in a public place. One country, one law for all.

Get rid of the Human Rights Act. It causes too many mad-cap decisions. Replace it with a common sense law.

Get rid of all laws to do with the Health and Safety Executive. They have done nothing for safety, but have crippled British industry and business with a plethora of silly rules and regulations that have priced us out of the world market.

Get rid of all laws allowing land owners to take the law into their own hands by using private contractors to clamp people’s cars.

I’m 100% that this Government will concentrate it’s effort’s on Double Yellow Lines, Balaclavas and Clamping. These are far and away the most important matters affecting the country right now.

Yes, get rid of the HSE. A few more deaths at work, or infecting a whole city centre with Legionnaire’s Disease, is a small price to pay if we can make our widgets more cheaply.

Quite right Alwyn issue everyone with a balaclava or Burka, protect us from all ugly people.

Teach people to smoke in bed and return children to the mines who needs the Health and Safety meddlers.

Pull the finger nails out from offenders no need for lawyers. If the executive think your a criminal then you are. Why do we then need Human Rights legislation.

Paint yellow lines everywhere, the disabled can hop. Why should I be expected to give any sympathy to a one legged ex serviceman.Think of the money we could save for good things like Trident replacement and bigger and better bombs.

Great country we NOW live in.

Oh Alwyn how detached and spiteful you sound. I am sure your not really like that.
The HSE has gone to great lengths to try and stop people banning things for H&S reasons. Take a look at their web site they have a weekly myth page which you really should read.
It’s not the HSE that stop things from happening its the people who fail to want to manage activities properly. Too often we see H&S being used as an excuse not to do something and those who don’t know any better blame the HSE.
Why they have not past any laws preventing it only asked that the activity be managed safely.

Alwyn now why would you want people to be hurt? I assume you have just misunderstood how it all really works and who really is to blame – It’s the people who do not know how to manage risk. But if you really want rid of them take a look in India, Africa and China where millions of children work 12 hours a day – some 7 days a week in squalid conditions without the protection of the HSE – think how many lives and limbs are lost there- and just to provide us with cheap goods. I do not know why you would want that here.

Is the coalition any different to any other government that would have been formed – well not really we already have expenses scandals, cuts without any thought behind them – all the easy stuff literally any one could do if they too only wanted to demonstrate how good they were at getting straight down to it.

Read the history of politics just over the last 5 or 6 decades and you will see how bad politicians really are. i.e. lets cause a Suez crisis for nationalising their own canal and then abandon the French there on the way out (oh and don’t tell our allies – The Americans as they are too busy having an election). History is littered with political errors – don’t expect any difference from people who get paid a lot more than the average citizen and if they get sacked get paid out a huge sum for the privilege.
