Film fans could win a chance to ride in the original car from the musical classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when it plays a starring role in this year's Shrewsbury Carnival.

Carnival day will run from 10am to 5pm on June 19, in the Quarry, with entertainment and lots of trade and charity stalls.

Gill Puttock, carnival committee secretary, said: "This year's theme is 'children's TV favourites' which should give people plenty of scope.

"Julia Wenlock, from Toot Sweets, has arranged for the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to make an appearance. She is also running a raffle, at £2 per ticket, for three lucky children to ride in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the carnival parade."

All the money raised will be go to county charities and voluntary groups.

Mrs Puttock said the carnival parade will leave the Quarry at 2pm.

For more on the raffle call into Toot Sweets Confectionery, in Butcher Row.
