Mayoral election ends in walk-out

Friday 21st May 2010, 9:35AM BST.

The mayoral elections at Telford & Wrekin Council’s annual meeting prompted a mass walkout for the second year in a row.

Members of the Labour group walked out of the chamber at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place last night in protest at the election of the new mayor.

They claimed the rejection of their candidate, Councillor Kuldip Sahota, was unconstitutional and the ruling Tories’ nomination, Councillor Ian Fletcher, should not have been made mayor.
