The number one curry chef in Shropshire could soon star on a prime-time BBC programme – after agreeing to host a charity dinner for Hope House.
Abdul Husen, from Cafe Saffron, in Shrewsbury’s Hills Lane, will feature on a comedy pilot by John Bishop.
If the pilot is a success, the programme will be screened each Saturday in a prime time slot.
Mr Husen is also planning a charity banquet for Hope House on Monday, May 24, and hopes to raise up to £2,000 as part of the Shopshire Star’s Riding For Hope appeal.
Mr Husen said: “The BBC film crew visited me earlier this week and spent three hours filming at the restaurant.”
The Liverpool comedian John Bishop is hoping to launch a new prime time, Saturday night TV show planned called John Bishop’s Britain.
“It will be filmed in front of a live audience and will feature stand-up, sketches and real life stories from members of the Great British public.”
They filmed me as one of the real life stories and they’ve invited me to go along in June.”
John Bishop said: “It’s a great honour that the BBC has put faith in me for this pilot and it’s an opportunity that I am extremely excited about.
“There is a rumour that having a Scouser on BBC One on a Saturday night means they get a grant but I am sure that’s not the reason they are doing the show … is it?”
Meanwhile, tickets are still available for a charity dinner on Saturday at Cafe Saffron.
Mr Husen said: “We’re pleased to be supporting the Shropshire Star’s Riding For Hope appeal by organising a charity dinner. We were recently named the best curry house in Shropshire in a countywide competition, so people can be sure of a great dinner.”
Tickets are available by calling (01743) 246753.
