Ash fear company refunds festival revellers
Thursday 20th May 2010, 11:29AM BST.
More than 4,000 letters have been sent out to refund people after a music festival was cancelled.
The three-day event was called off over fears the volcanic ash cloud would stop acts getting into the UK.
The event was due to take place over the Whit Sunday Bank Holiday weekend at the West Mid Showground.
It would have featured bands such as Australian Pink Floyd, The Drifters, The Temptations and the National Symphony Orchestra.
Matt Davies, one of the business partners from Showtime Events which organised the event, said they had taken the decision to cancel the festival despite selling thousands of tickets.
He said: “So far 1,320 tickets have been refunded through PayPal with 60 left to do this evening. 4,223 letters have been sent out yesterday and phone calls will start on Monday to pay back via the box office.”
Visitors to the Showtime Events website were met with the message: “Important announcement. The event at the West Mid Showground on May 28 to 30, 2010 is now cancelled.
“All refunds shall be paid in full. For further information please telephone 0333 1234 234.”
An article in Tuesday’s Shropshire Star incorrectly stated that Showtime Events had been made the subject of a “business asbo”. This is not the case and the error is regretted.
