Letter: I welcome the creation of the Liberal-Conservative government.

People change and politics changes with people. I believe that people are increasingly moving away from the old-style politics and are now much more interested in co-operation and agreement.

Indeed, there is much that Telford politicians can learn from the example being set by Nick Clegg and David Cameron.

I hope that the progressive partnership proves successful in tackling the many challenges that our country now faces.

I wish the new Prime Minister and his deputy well.

Cllr George Ashcroft

Telford

In other words the British public have had a coalition which is a rather posh word for a mish mash of torys (who would do anything to get in at number 10) and sell their own grandmother lib/dems who should all hang their heads in shame imposed on them?.
This joke will fall within the next 24 months and some sort of common sence will prevail.
Cameron should have gone on as a minority and he would have failed at that, and another elction would have been called by october 2010.
We have had clegg and his conspiritors gain cabinet positions as their pieces of silver none of these people will hold their seats a the next election they have shown no consideration for the voter.
This joke, sorry coalition as has been stated will be the most unpopular band of brothers ever, due to the awfull nightmare scenarios they are going to have to impose on the British public du to the WORLD WIDE problems.
I believe the labour guv had no intention of joinng with the lib/dems and have played a blinder let this jumble sale of a coalition implement everything joe public will hate them , the calition fails back come labour .
Hesaltine has said they cant afford to fail if they do neither conservative or lib/dems would do any good in an early elction and labour would be back.
It is nice to know even in local guv we have away with the faries councillors who take it upon themselves to say what is good for the nation . It is not good for the nation and neither have these people in guv given the country a second thought as they take up the roles again politicians ignoring the general public .

arguing like children instead ofWORKING TOGETHER for the good of the nation if it is not going to work then i suggest the break-up
of the british political system and we become

Cllr Ashcroft is trying to put a rosy spin on the coalition, nobody voted for cooperation and agreement! that is the result of horse trading after the event.

We are now firmly in the territory where the politicians offer the voters a minimal raft of polices and then renege even on those at the first opportunity, yet still claim a mandate for their new policies.

The LibDems and Labour actually lost seats so it is clear their polices were not attractive to enough voters, the Conservative gained many seats but not enough and mainly in England. So from where does the idea emerge that the people actually want a Conservative government to implement LibDem Polices or for that matter LibDems to prop up a minority Conservative administration that would not last long on its own. Who actually voted for 20 of our government posts to be filled with members of the party that polled the fewest votes?

Perhaps the reason for the election results has not a little to do with the closeness of the political parties on policies on all the major issues. The election itself was nothing more than a series of building mountains out of mole hills whilst ignoring all the really big issues. The first week was almost entirely devoted to a debate about government receipts being cut by 6 bil this year or next, when we all knew that any incoming administration would have to cut expenditure by a lot more than that to even begin to deal with the deficit.

Which one of the parties for instance offered any real insight into how they intended dealing with the public deficit or how they intended dealing with the emerging energy crisis we are facing or offered any choice with regards to our involvement with the EU? Just to name three areas of waffle and silence.

If it is a new form of politics it is not based on democracy which presupposes choice, but on the removal of choice from the political realm, we are in fact only voting for a new management team not a new government.
