Tea room up for sale

An historic tea room in Shrewsbury has been put up for sale.
Poppy’s Tea Room in Milk Street has been put on the market by owner Geoff Meredith with an asking price of £80,000 for the lease.
Preferred Commercial, which is organising the sale, said: “The business is housed within a double fronted property that has the benefit of high footfall and is popular with locals, visitors and tourists alike.
“We are delighted to offer for sale this thriving and highly regarded restaurant and tea rooms in such an ideal trading location in Shrewsbury town centre.
“The business occupies exceptionally well appointed period premises with a ground floor dining area for 68, 28-covers to first floor as well as 25 external covers in the courtyard.
“The business has been established since 1988 and has been owned by our client for the past three years.
“It is only now being placed on the market due to ill health/retirement.”
The sales particulars add:”The business is run at a pace to suit and currently has a weekly turnover of £4,300, achieving a gross profit of 67 per cent.
“A new owner could greatly increase the turnover with the introduction of evening and Sunday opening.”
The tea room was at the centre of controversy earlier this year when food critic Michael Winner slated the food he received in an article for The Times.

That’s a pity. It’s a great place to eat, drink and chat. I wish Geoff well for his retirement. This place would be a goldmine as it is so popular.
