Long-awaited plans for the redevelopment of Shrewsbury’s Music Hall, including a heritage visitor centre, moved a step closer today after a firm said it was awarded the contract .
Construction firm ISG said it had been awarded a contract, believed to be worth about £5.5 million, to create the centre.
Restoration work has already been taking place at the site as part of the £10 million pound project.
The town’s former theatre closed in January 2009 when it was replaced by the £28 million Theatre Severn. The new centre is due to open in November 2011.
It is expected to feature a piazza housing a cafe and bistro, art gallery and shops and will show historical collections from Shropshire.
Shropshire Council said it hoped to make a formal announcement soon.
