A £500,000 project to revamp the biggest hotel in a north Shropshire town could create 20 jobs, it was revealed today.

Work to restore the Corbet Arms in High Street, Market Drayton, is well under way with bosses hopeful it could open for business by Christmas.

The coaching inn, which is a grade-II listed building, was snapped up by Market Drayton businessman Maroof Shah and his brother in a £200,000 deal.

Now Mr Shah, who owns Costcutters on the Dalelands Estate and the Queen Street post office, has revealed fresh details of his plans for the historic site.

He said:”I really want to restore it to how it used to be and see it full of people again because everyone knows it.”

Mr Shah hopes to create 15 to 20 full and part-time jobs if successful.
