Families in misery because of teenage sex exploitation
Tuesday 11th May 2010, 1:47PM BST.
The lives of teenage sexual exploitation victims and their families in Telford are being made a “misery” by the criminals who are targeting them, the borough council’s boss said today.
Victor Brownlees, chief executive of Telford & Wrekin Council, urged parents to pick up the phone and help their children escape the world of exploitation they could possibly be in or could be facing.
Mr Brownlees said the council and police had worked “hand in glove” to launch the helplines and to provide support for victims and their families in the “Turning the stone on child exploitation” campaign.
The campaign is a joint operation with Telford police and other agencies including the council’s children’s services and social services’ child exploitation team. It was funded with cash from the EU and backed by MEP Liz Lynne.
Mr Brownlees said: “What we are talking about here is a number of families and young girls whose lives are being made a misery as a result of criminality.
“Our job is to support the families and the teenage girls while the police do their job which is to arrest and prosecute the criminals.
“The phone lines are there for parents who may be concerned that their child may be at risk.”
He reassured parents that the problem was no indication of their family life and should not be fearful of social services being involved.
“This is not about social workers trying to meddle in the lives of families but we are here to offer help, support and advise,” he said.

Yes we all know who the people are who groom and trap these young woman into the sex trade.
they are those who hide behind the race relation laws. It’s about time politicians made laws that crack down on the criminals, not laws that criminals can hide behind.
