Dozens of people flocked into Newtown this weekend to watch an X Factor finalist perform at the town’s football club.

Sixteen-year-old Lloyd Daniels, who just missed out on reaching the semi-final of the ITV1 singing competition last year, performed at Newtown Football Club on Saturday.

The Welsh singer, who was mentored by Girls Aloud singer and show judge Cheryl Cole, was voted off the programme after performing Take That’s A Million Love Songs and the Elton John classic, I’m Still Standing.

But despite missing out on taking the X Factor crown, he has become a popular name in the music world with fans flocking to see him and fan mail piling through his door.

Barry Gardner, event organiser, said the evening had been a success.

He said: “The evening saw Lloyd perform along with two local supporting acts and it was great for the young people of Mid Wales to see their idol.”

He said that a number of people who managed to secure VIP tickets got the opportunity to meet Lloyd and have their picture taken with him.

“It was a great night and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed it,” he added.

The young performer was due to play The Venue on May 1 but the gig had to be called off just hours before it was due to take place after he suffered whiplash in an accident.

The Venue is currently in discussions with the singer’s management company to reorganise the event and an announcement is due shortly.

Ticket-holders will be able to use their tickets for the rescheduled performance when it is announced.
