Police find drug factory in call to ‘burglary’
Monday 10th May 2010, 11:50AM BST.
A cannabis factory containing £200,000 worth of illegal drugs, which included around 200 plants, has been discovered by detectives in Telford.
The haul was found after police were called to reports of a burglary in High Street, Hadley, at 12.50am yesterday.
When police got to the scene no burglary had taken place – but they discovered the property had been made into a cannabis factory with specialist lighting, heating and water supply.
Chris Ammonds, a spokesman for Telford police, said an unknown caller had reported two youths wearing balaclavas going into the house.
But when police arrived nobody was at the property.
He said: “Police discovered 200 cannabis plants which over a year would create a street value of around £200,000.
“Specialist operations will be continuing to investigate who the property was let to and who the property is owned by.
“No arrests were made but the property had been significantly altered to make it suitable for the cultivation of cannabis.
“This discovery has made a significant dent in the supply of cannabis in Telford and we will continue to crack down on the people behind such set-ups.”
Central Networks were also called to the address by police to make it safe.
It comes just days after £20,000 worth of methadrone was discovered in Aqueduct. In the first case since the drug was made illegal last month, a team of officers raided the property and seized a “significant” amount of the drug.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
