Ellesmere plans are welcomed

Multi-million pound plans for a major redevelopment of a north Shropshire town centre have been welcomed by councillors.
While the scale of the plans for the former Dairy Crest Site, Wharf Road, Ellesmere, have been downsized in the wake of the recession, Ellesmere town councillors say the scheme should be applauded.
The only concerns they raised at the annual meeting of Ellesmere Town Council last night was over parking provision.
Cheshire-based PB Developments, which is working at the 31-acre former Dairy Crest creamery site, is to build 300 homes, a public square, car parking, a pub and restaurant, extended nature reserve and residential care home.
The phase one road infrastructure and Tesco foodstore has already been completed.
But a planned creche and block of live/work units in Wharf Road have been shelved, while a sheltered housing block earmarked for the west of Birch Road will be replaced with private housing units instead.
Fifteen public parking spaces behind a canalside pub have also been axed.
Councillor Geoff Elner said: “We are pleased with this development but we have concerns over parking and the impact of parking within the locality.”
But he added: “We support the application and welcome the application.”
