Rain is blamed for quiet roads
Monday 3rd May 2010, 11:05AM BST.
Roads across Shropshire have been unusually quiet over the bank holiday weekend with highways chiefs blaming rain and a drop in temperature.
It comes as the RAC claimed soaring fuel prices were also putting households off going away for a traditional break.
The Highways Agency, which looks after the M54, A5 and A49 in Shropshire, said the roads had been relatively quiet over the weekend and said the colder weather meant they were expecting more of the same today.
Forecasters said today should be drier than yesterday, but would still feel colder than normal in many parts. Much of the UK was soaked yesterday, particularly parts of the Midlands, where almost 1.5 inches of rain fell in 24 hours.
Brighter spells are expected today with just some scattered showers, but a chilly northerly breeze will peg maximum temperatures to about 12C (54F).
