A woman has died and four others were injured following a two-car smash close to the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.
Emergency services were called to the A518 Newport road about two miles from Gnosall at 7.20pm on Saturday following the crash between a blue Rover 414 car and a black Ford S-Max.
The front seat passenger of the Rover, an 18-year old woman from the Stafford area, was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver, a 21-year-old man from Penkridge, suffered serious head injuries.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said four people had been found trapped inside the Rover, which is believed to have been travelling from Gnosall.
“The woman front seat passenger suffered serious multiple injuries and unfortunately despite the best efforts from ambulance crews was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.
“The driver of the car suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the University Hospital North Staffordshire where his injuries are believed to be life-threatening.”
Two other female passengers were taken to hospital for leg injuries.
He said the driver of the Ford, a 49-year-old man from the Stafford area, was treated at the scene for a shoulder injury and taken to Stafford General Hospital.
