A Shropshire council says it is on track with its regeneration programme, with more than £12 million being spent on making changes to important centres within Telford and Wrekin.
Telford & Wrekin Council said it was on schedule to bring “significant improvements” to the area as part of its Borough Towns Initiative.
Work has started on the new £8.5 million Wellington Civic Quarter and the town’s streets will also get a makeover this year with a £1.1 million re-paving scheme due to get under way in New Street in June.
In Dawley, work has started on improving the town’s car parks and High Street to make the town more attractive and accessible for residents and visitors.
The £2 million scheme has seen work on two car parks completed.
Contractors are now working on the third town centre car park and improving the High Street with new paving, lighting and street furniture.
The council’s plans board has also approved plans for a new bandstand to replace the current one in the centre of the High Street.
Newport is currently benefiting from the BTI funding with £330,000 being spent on improving the town’s Victoria Park.
The area’s car park has already been relocated to allow the former site to be used as a more natural backdrop to the canal. Work is due to be finished this month.
A further £700,000 will also be spent on re-paving and de-cluttering Newport High Street in a significant project due to get under way in June.
David Sidaway, the council’s head of property & des-ign, said the major schemes were on schedule to deliver significant improvements to the borough towns

The previous administration at Telford and Wrekin should never have allowed the borough to get so bad.
