Doctor before medical council
Friday 30th April 2010, 11:25AM BST.
A Mid Wales doctor accused of providing “inappropriate” treatment and being a risk to patients has appeared before the General Medical Council.
Dr Sarah Myhill was banned from prescribing drugs and told to take down part of her website after appearing by the GMC.
She will have to comply with the order made for 18-months after two complaints were made.
Dr Myhill has a private practice in Llangunllo, neat Knighton, where she specialises in treating patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. She appeared before the hearing over claims her treatment had “no clinical basis”. Her supporters claim she is the victim of a “witch-hunt”.
There have been complaints against her on seven occasions since 2001, but this is the first time she has appeared before the GMC.
Before the hearing, she said that she could not understand why complaints against her were being heard.
Dr Myhill said she tried to find the causes of a disease, rather than treating the symptoms with drugs.
The GMC considered whether there might be impairment of Dr Myhill’s fitness to practice, which posed a real risk to members of the public or might adversely affect the public interests or Dr Myhill’s own interests.
