The major expansion of Stans Superstore in St Martins has paid off after the store was named as one of the best independent outlets in the country.
The store, which started out in 1947 as a small fish and chip shop run by Stan Faulks, is now one of the biggest employers in the Oswestry area. Last year, alterations increased the supermarket to 28,000 square feet.
Its success was marked when it collected a highly commended award in the best supermarket category of the prestigious National Independent Supermarkets Associations annual retail member and supplier awards.
A delighted Andrew Faulks, grandson of Stan Faulks, said: “The judges took a number of factors into consideration including product ranges, offers and promotions, customer service and facilities and overall approach to running the supermarket.
“I would like to give a big thank you to all our staff for their commitment and their hard work, and to all our customers for their continued loyalty.”
