Doorman ‘contributed to man’s death’
Thursday 29th April 2010, 9:33AM BST.
A Shropshire doorman compressed the chest of a father-of-four leaving him unable to breathe contributing to his death, it has been claimed.
Paul Farrer, prosecuting, accused Daryl Brown of causing the death of Darren Griffiths during his summing up speech at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday.
Brown, 33, of Severn Drive, Wellington, denies the manslaughter of Mr Griffiths, who died following an incident at the Liquid & Diva nightclub in Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, on June 29, last year.
Yesterday he also denied an alternative charge of actual bodily harm.
Mr Farrer said: “The person who takes most responsibility is, you may think, Neil Stokes, but you may well conclude in evidence Daryl Brown ultimately killed Mr Griffiths.”
On Tuesday the jury heard Stokes, 22, of Spring Gardens, Shrewsbury, has already admitted manslaughter. Mr Farrer said: “It was a combination of factors that killed Mr Griffiths.”
He said the first factor was a choke hold administered by Stokes that left Mr Griffiths, from Harmer Hill, near Shrewsbury, exhausted. He added: “Further violence continued as he was restrained but it was the forceful compression of his chest which prevented him from breathing and killed him.
“Each three stages play a part in causing the tragic death of Mr Griffiths and Daryl Brown was involved in all three of those stages.”
The trial continues.
