A man’s body was pulled from a river near a Shropshire village today, police have confirmed.

The man, who has not been identified, was recovered by firefighters from the River Tern at Peplow, near Hodnet, this morning.

Police received reports of a “suspicious object” floating in the water at about 10.20am and firefighters were called with a rescue boat.

Maria Hawkaluk, West Mercia Police, spokeswoman said the body had yet to be formally identified, but that the coroner for mid and north Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, had been informed.

She added the death was being treated as “unexplained”.
