Man doused in petrol
Monday 26th April 2010, 1:25PM BST.
A man had petrol poured over him as he sat drinking at a Shropshire sports and social club, police said.
The attacker struck and threatened the victim while he was at Donnington Sports and Social Club in Turreff Avenue, Donnington, about 8.30pm yesterday.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said today: “A man entered and poured petrol on another man. Basically some threats were made to the man who had petrol poured over him.”
He said both men had gone into the car park before the assailant ran off.
Mr Ammonds said a man was arrested by police in nearby Queen’s Road. He remained in custody at Malinsgate Police Station today.
Ian Leigh, watch manager at Wellington Fire Station, said today: ““We were asked by the police to attend to provide any back-up.
“Luckily the perpetrator was unable to ignite the petrol.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service said it had received a call to attend the incident. A spokesman said: “The patient refused hospital treatment and we left the police to deal with the patient.”
