County gets digital deadline date
Tuesday 20th April 2010, 12:20PM BST.
Shropshire TV viewers will have to go digital by April 2011 if they are to keep receiving programmes, it was announced today.
The switchover will see analogue transmissions switched off in two stages.
First to go will be BBC 2, on April 6, 2011, and then the remaining analogue signals will be switched off on April 20.
“Switchover”, at the Wrekin transmitter group serving the county, will see the five analogue TV channels switched off and the Freeview digital service boosted to reach virtually all Shropshire households.
Thousands of homes previously in digital blackspots, such as Bucknell and Clun, will be able to receive Freeview channels for the first time.
Digital UK and the Switchover Help Scheme are preparing to launch a public information campaign to ensure viewers are ready for the change.
Peter Monteith, of Digital UK, said Shropshire Star readers could check their switch-over date and options for getting digital TV by using the Digital UK postcode checker at digitaluk.co.uk or on 08456 50 50 50.

Us carrot crunchers here in Devon have been digital for a year or more now, it’s quite painless except for a mountain load of old televisions.
