A Valentine’s ball which was postponed after the death of Shropshire teenager Frankie McFall has been held in her memory.
The Oswestry School ball had been due to take place last month, days after the 18-year-old student was found dead along with her mother, Susan, at their home in Hampton Road, Oswestry.
The popular teenager and her mother were found dead in the early hours of February 5. A few hours later her father, Hugh McFall, was found hanged at his business premises in St Martins.
Police believe Mr McFall murdered his wife and daughter before taking his own life.
On the evening before her death, Frankie commented on her Facebook page that she was looking forward to the Oswestry School Valentine’s Ball.
But in the wake of the tragedy, the Valentine’s Ball was postponed as her friends and fellow students struggled to come to terms with the devastating events.
Last night the ball went ahead at the Walls Restaurant in the town, dedicated as a charity event in Frankie’s memory.
Paul Stockdale, Oswestry School headmaster, said about 110 staff and pupils attended the event which was raising money for the Britain-Nepal Medical Trust.
The school believed it was a fitting tribute as Frankie wanted to help the charity during her gap year.
Mr Stockdale said last night: “Inevitably tonight’s event is tinged with sadness but by holding the event in Frankie’s memory and raising money for a cause she held dear to her heart I am sure we can celebrate the occasion in a way she would have enjoyed.
“Our sincere thanks to the staff and management at Walls Restaurant, Mike Scott of Osfest, Discs of Steel and Balloons for All Occasions who’ve been wonderfully supportive in helping us rearrange this event.”
Earlier this month the funerals of Frankie and Mrs McFall took place before an emotional memorial service.
Almost 700 people packed Oswestry’s parish church for the service.
Mr McFall’s funeral was held separately.
The inquests will be held at a later date.
