Grimsby winger Jamie Devitt has lit the blue touch paper on the eve of the meeting with his former club Shrewsbury Town, declaring: "We play the better football."

Loan ranger Devitt spent the last two months of 2009 at the Prostar Stadium on a temporary move from Hull City, but will be in the Mariners line-up for tomorrow's Blundell Park clash.

It's a vital afternoon for both clubs with Shrewsbury looking to maintain their promotion assault, while Grimsby are desperately seeking to end their 25-match winless League Two streak which has brought the prospect of relegation into sharp focus.

Devitt, currently on a month's loan at Grimsby, insists he is looking forward to the game - and believes his current side have the edge in terms of style.

"I've been speaking to a few of the lads at Shrewsbury and I'm looking forward to playing against them," he said. "I think we try and play more football here under Neil Woods.

"At Shrewsbury it was a case of getting it up to the front men as soon as possible. I didn't like that - I don't think it works properly even though they are doing all right with it at the minute.

"I don't like that style because midfielders like me don't get on the ball as much. It's contrasting styles and I know about both teams."

Meanwhile, Town boss Paul Simpson is making sure his side take nothing for granted as they look to strengthen their case for a play-off place - and push closer to the automatic promotion positions.

"We started on Monday making sure there's no complacency," he revealed.

"This is our most important game of the season, and not just because it's the next one.

"We know we have to be up for this one just like we will be when playing the likes of Aldershot or Notts County in the next few weeks. The law of averages say Grimsby have to win at some point.

"The long run they've had without a win is incredible, but we know we have to be absolutely spot on."

Simpson is without suspended defenders Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Dean Holden, while midfielder Craig Disley is still sidelined with an ankle injury.

Classic from Devitt who was useless anyway..

If Grimsby play the better football then why havent they won in 25 games?.

Better football? 25 losses? Edge in terms of style? The only edge Grimsby will see is the edge of the bottom of league two as they topple into the league below!

prd
