Cancer sufferer is nominated for award
Tuesday 2nd March 2010, 10:12AM GMT.
A Shrewsbury woman who has helped raise thousands of pounds for charity while bravely battling cancer for the second time is among the first people to have been nominated for a “Pride of Shropshire” award.
Kerry Robinson, from Berwick Grange, is described as “one very special person” for the way she has refused to allow a terminal cancer diagnosis to get in the way of her charity fundraising and foster caring work.
She fought off breast cancer about a decade ago, but was last year told the cancer had returned in her spine and bones.
Her long-time friend Yvonne Alcock, from Worthen, said: “Throughout this, Kerry has been the driving force behind raising thousands of pounds for Severn Hospice and Lingen Davies.
“Inspirational is the word which best describes Kerry.”
The Pride of Shropshire Awards are organised by the Shropshire Star, in conjunction with Shropshire Partnership and Muller, and supported by other businesses.
This year, the search is on for an overall champion, who will be chosen from the winners of nine categories, recognising good neighbours, courage, environmental projects, special young people, healthy life, community groups, carers, learners, and new business ideas.
Peter Guy, advertisement director for Shropshire Newspapers, said: “The awards celebrate and highlight the achievements of people who work quietly behind the scenes, but make a real difference to the success and wellbeing of Shropshire.”
