Inside the Music Hall as the revamp begins
Work on the restoration of a medieval house as part of a £10 million project to transform Shrewsbury’s Music Hall into a museum and heritage centre has begun with bosses today vowing it will be a “magnificent” scheme.
Dominic Wallis, from Shropshire Council, said contractors were already beginning the restoration of Vaughan’s Mansion, a post-Norman defensive house, which will eventually be open to the public when the site opens in November 2011.
The town’s former theatre has been closed since January 2009 when it was replaced by the £28 million Theatre Severn.
The building is being renovated and will be converted into a visitor centre. It will feature a piazza housing a cafe and bistro, a cafe, art gallery and shops and will show historical collections from Shropshire.
