Man-of-the-moment Dave Hibbert has been challenged to break through the 20-goal barrier - as he sets his sights on a slice of Shrewsbury Town history this weekend.

The striker is enjoying his most prolific season in professional football with 14 goals - scoring in each of his last five outings.

Hibbert, who turns 24 tomorrow, could have a cause for double celebration if he finds the net against Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

For if he does, he will become the first Shrewsbury Town player to score in six successive Football League games.

Six players have scored in five consecutive League games before now, but none of them have gone on to hit the net in the sixth game.

And Hibbert will enter his quest for history with an endorsement from manager Paul Simpson ringing in his ears.

"Dave is on a fantastic run," said the Town chief.

"He had a terrible time with injuries last season and you have to give him a lot credit for the work he did last summer to get himself back up and running again.

"He is on a great run of form and long may it continue.

"His next target has to be to get to 20 goals."

Meanwhile, Simpson has revealed he is continuing his search for new faces as the January transfer window draws to a close.

Clubs have until 5pm on Monday to complete permanent or temporary signings, but will be able to continue to make loan signings after a one-week 'cooling-off' period.

So far, Shrewsbury have made one addition in January by signing Huddersfield full-back Joe Skarz on loan for the remainder of the season.

He made his debut against Dagenham on Saturday.

And Simpson has revealed he has not given up hope of making further additions.

"I am waiting for decisions, but I have been waiting for decisions for about a week so we will just have to see what the next few days bring," he added.

Shrewsbury, who were involved in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Tranmere today, remain in fifth place in League Two despite seven games being played in the division last night.
