Postie Jason Urwin is the talk of Dawley in Telford for ditching regulation Royal Mail trousers in favour of shorts whatever the weather.

And the 38-year-old has the stamp of approval from residents who think he is first class. Jason has been pushing letters through boxes in his shorts in Dawley for more than three and a half years.

Now people in Dawley want to know if he is Shropshire's wackiest postie.

The father-of-two has admitted to not even owning a pair of work trousers since getting into the routine of wearing his shorts whether its raining or even snowing.

Net curtains have been twitching and giggles can be heard from Oxford Road where one woman says she always has a smile at Jason's year-round delivery.

Dianna Young said: "It's just weird in snow and ice seeing him in his shorts and he has been coming around for quite some years and I have never seen him in anything else.

"One day recently it was very frosty out and I saw him again in his shorts and it made me chuckle because he had every inch of him covered except for his eyes and his legs.

"My son was here one day and I said 'look at my postman wearing his shorts' and he had a chuckle too.

"It's quite unusual and I just wonder if he is the wackiest postman in Shropshire?"

But the postman, who lives in Stirchley, says it is just his style for delivering letters.

He said: "When I first started with the Royal Mail I did think it was cold and saw other postmen in shorts and thought what are they doing.

"But one year the shorts stayed on and then I just found it was my fingertips that got cold.

"I do get a lot of reaction from people asking are you not cold or are your knees knocking together, especially when it's frosty or snowing.

"But I don't own a pair of long trousers anyway."
