A police investigation has been launched and roads around the pub were sealed off because of fears about the stability of the building. No-one was believed to have been living in the pub at the time.

Firefighters from Prees, Whitchurch, and Wem were called to the scene and were later joined by the aerial ladder platform from Shrewsbury.

Very shocking and sad news. Had some wonderful evenings there and the home cooking was great.

Another blow to our Village, no Shop, no Post Office now no Pub, & a lot of History lost.

A sad time for Whixall!

Polecat

The pub has been closed down for a few months now and the search was on for a new buyer. I hope the police work very hard to find out who did this. Whixall is a large village and the houses are very spread out and this place kept the real Whixall people in touch with each other. Lets hope it can be saved and renovated. Would be interesting to know what the owners think of the fire.
