Attingham Park to open early for long season
Monday 7th March 2011, 3:38PM GMT.
One of Shropshire’s top tourist attractions is throwing its doors open to the public for its longest ever season.
Attingham Park will be reopening the mansion next Saturday until the end of October.
New plans at the National Trust estate will also see guests welcomed in on Wednesdays — allowing people to visit seven days a week for the very first time.
The new opening day will be dedicated to classic costumes with volunteers and staff in Regency dress, specifically from 1811-1820, reflecting the time of the Second Lord and Lady Berwick.
Catherine Turnbull, engagement and conservation manager, said: “Guides being in Regency costume on a Wednesday is a wonderful way to bring Attingham to life and offers a different experience.”
Visitors will also be able to take the inspiring stories of Attingham away with them with the launch of a new souvenir guide. The newly published guide, on sale from March 12, tells the stories of the Berwick family and their changing fortunes, revival and re-discovery. Major developments, particularly in the west side of the mansion, will be displayed during the first week of the Attingham Re-discovered programme.
Attingham is open daily from Saturday until October 30.
