A former toll house – built in 1793 in what is now the county’s only World Heritage Site – has gone on the market in Coalport.

The historic home, originally built as a warehouse, was converted into the old toll house in 1818 and kept going for more than 100 years.

The detached three bedroom home is now on the market with Nock Deighton in Ironbridge for £279,950.

The former toll house is steeped in history and operated as a toll house until 1922. Michael Evans, director at Nock Deighton, said: “Shropshire continues to be one of the most sought-after locations for house-hunters, and with properties like these on the market, it’s not difficult to understand why.”

Mr Evans added the toll house was not only beautiful but had hundreds of years of history behind it. Agents at Nock Deighton said the home had been refurbished to a “superior” standard and offered a wealth of character throughout.

The Grade II listed home includes a lounge with exposed beams, two bedrooms, and stunning views overlooking the river.

There are paved patios and landscaped south facing terraced gardens running down to the banks of the River Severn.

It also has fishing rights. Call Nock Deightons on (01952) 432533 or visit www.nockdeighton.co.uk
