TV series aims to find home for Shrewsbury hero
Thursday 23rd December 2010, 10:01PM GMT.
A Shropshire soldier who suffered devastating injuries while stationed in Afghanistan will feature on the Christmas special of Location, Location, Location.
Captain Nick Beighton, of Radbrook Green, Shrewsbury, lost his legs in a roadside bomb attack in Helmand Province in October, 2009. He has now finished his rehabilitation and will return to work on January 10.
But before that Captain Beighton will feature on a special “Homes For Heroes” episode of the Channel 4 house hunting programme, with his partner Leki Stones.
The couple are helped in their bid to find the perfect family home in Shropshire with four bedrooms, plenty of character and a garden, by presenters Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer.
Two other war heroes will also feature in the episode to be shown on December 30.
Mother Sue said they had been excited about watching the programme since it was filmed in May.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to watching it next Thursday and there have been lots of people asking me when it’s on.
“It’s the programme’s 10th anniversary and they decided to dedicate the Christmas special to help find homes for families in the military.”
In the episode Captain Beighton is shown around two properties in Asterley, near Minsterley, one in Arscott, near Pontesbury, and another in Westbury.
Over the last year he has undergone rehabilitation at Headley Court, in Surrey. It has seen him continue his love for all things active, taking part in rock-climbing, water-skiing and white-water rafting – and he is now training to join the Great Britain Paralympic Rowing Team.
Sue added: “Nick’s progress has been wonderful and he’s very positive. As he says, when something like this happens, you have to grab each opportunity that comes to you.”
Captain Beighton was in the same intake at Sandhurst as Prince William.
The programme will be aired at 8.55pm on December 30 on Channel 4, and repeated on New Year’s Day, at 10.50pm on More4.
