Savings accounts and ISAs to help you move home

Commercial feature – When you’re looking at the range of savings accounts available to you, it’s important to think about how your needs may change in the future.
It is essential to make sure any account you set up is able to serve you as you
grow and your goals change – so a good understanding of what is out there is invaluable.
Everybody saves for different reasons and this depends on where you find yourself in life. It might be that you’re
putting cash aside to take the leap into higher education. Or you could be saving for your first car or deposit on a
home. Of course, moving house at any point is an expense that can be made all the easier with a little financial
backing so you should consider the benefits of planning ahead for this. Recent research from YouGov showed
over 360,000 Britons moved house in the last year simply because of the irritating behaviour of their neighbours.
If you’re looking to enter the housing market, there are a range of accounts such as an ISA that could be perfectly
suited to your needs.
If online access is a priority, accounts such as the Lloyds TSB’s eSavings are worth considering. This is just one
option that focuses on combining a competitive rate of interest with the speed and convenience of managing your
savings online. As the account can be set up with an opening balance of just £1, it can be put in place quickly and
the ability to name the account helps you focus on achieving that particular financial goal.
An alternative to this could be a cash ISA, which can be set up by any eligible UK resident aged 16 or over. ISAs
can be set up and managed online and offer a much better interest rate when tax is taken into account. It allows
you to save anything up to £5,100 over the course of this tax year and give you tax free interest to make your
savings go that little bit further.
Of course, your savings goal may not involve moving house, in fact many people like to set up an account as a
way of giving themselves – and their loved ones – a financial safety net should things take an unexpected turn. But
regardless of the reasons, comparing savings accounts will raise questions for you about what the right approach
is for achieving those personal savings goals. An easy access savings account, for example, may offer the kind of
online features that will help you make regular contributions whenever you feel you can from the comfort of your
own home. All in all, no matter where you are in life, there is a savings account out there that could get you where
you want to be.
