Row over plans for Cleobury Mortimer housing development

Developers lining up a major housing development in a south Shropshire town have come under fire after it was claimed an information event in the town was poorly advertised.

Sean Thorogood, a member of Cleobury Mortimer Parish Council, said he had only found out about last Friday’s event held by Bovis Homes at Cleobury Country Centre by chance, and added he believed many other people were not aware of the opportunity to quiz officers over a planned 92-home scheme in the town.

But officials at Bovis Homes have claimed 300 invites were sent out to local residents in nearby homes and the parish council, and said about 50 people had attended the event during the day.

The company wants to build the homes on the former Muller England site, despite huge objections from local residents who have claimed the development has coated their homes and property in dust and led to significant noise.

Planning permission for the scheme was granted earlier this year by Shropshire Council.

The site of the new homes is next to land on Vaughan’s Road where Marches Housing Association plan to build a further 16 homes, while earlier this year Bovis officials also bought the adjacent JAG Glazing site although no plans have yet been unveiled for it.
