Move to convert St Mary’s Church Hall into home

Proposals to refurbish and convert a dilapidated listed church hall in Telford into a three-bedroom home are in the pipeline.
The plans have been submitted for St Mary’s Church Hall in Shepherd’s Lane in Ketley.
There is current planning permission to knock down the building and build two new homes. But the fresh plans have been sent in to Telford & Wrekin Council for the conversion.
In a report on behalf of the applicants by ACP Architects says it is considered the two homes would look “out of place” against the setting of a Grade II Listed building which is the adjacent St Mary’s Church.
It says: “The careful and sympathetic refurbishment and conversion of the existing redundant church hall would be more appropriate in this location.”
The building accessed via a private drive comprises a main hall, including a stage for functions, a smaller meeting room and ancillary facilities, including a kitchen and toilets.
The proposed layout retains virtually the whole of the building footprint, with the exception of a small area of the lean-to part which would be demolished.
The report says the proposal will improve the appearance of the dilapidated redundant building.
