An early 19th century country estate “of historical importance” on the northern fringe of Telford has been put up for sale with a guide price of £2.35 million.

Eyton Hall, at Eyton-on-the-Weald-Moors, is a seven-bedroom mansion with 27 acres of parkland and gardens. It was built for the Eyton family, one of the area’s best known and longest-established families.

The village cricket club, one of the oldest in the county, was spearheaded by Thomas Eyton, described as the “father of Shropshire cricket”.

Tony Morris-Eyton of Savills, which is marketing the property, said: “The timeless style of the Regency period is echoed throughout Eyton Hall.

“With its stunning oriental influenced hallway, complete with Indian inspired vaulted ceilings, much like those at Brighton Pavilion, Eyton Hall is a home of historical importance.

Architecture

“The Eyton family has been based in the area since very early times and they held in the manor until 1962.

“There has been a house on the site for many centuries, with the current Grade II listed property noted for its exceptionally fine Regency architecture.”

The current owner had spent a large amount of money on refurbishing the property to highlight its Georgian features, he said.

All the principal bedrooms have views over the parkland, and the sale also includes two derelict buildings which have planning permission to be converted into accommodation.

Mr Morris-Eyton added: “From the south-facing terrace, the lawns sweep down to the parkland beyond, flanked by woodland and rhododendrons.

There are a number of specimen trees and the garden has been planted to provide interest all year round.”
