Rally treat for vintage vehicle enthusiasts

Organisers of a Shropshire vintage rally today hailed it a success, despite wet weather putting visitors off from turning out for the second day of the annual event.

Derek Sheedy, chairman of the Mid Shropshire Vintage Club, said they had been blessed with glorious sunshine on Saturday – but the second day at the Berwick Road Showground in Shrewsbury is traditionally the biggest crowd-puller.

A late surge of entries of historic cars, lorries, tractors and military vehicles had pushed the number of vintage machines on display up to more than 800.

A 1960 London Transport double-decker bus and a display of tractors were on view.
