Hundreds of car enthusiasts turned out to a classic car event in Shropshire which featured dozens of historic vehicles.

The 10th Classic Transport Day at the Severn Valley Railway on Saturday featured about 60 classic cars and included everything from a special exhibition on the iconic Mini, to vintage Aston Martins and luxurious Rolls Royces.

Organiser Robert Whale said he was “delighted” with the event, at Bridgnorth and Highley stations.

He said: “It’s always a great opportunity to see some amazing vehicles from the golden age of motoring.

“This was one of two classic car shows we hold each year, the second is in October.

“We had about 59 entries and I think only a couple were non- starters and couldn’t make it,” he said. “What was quite special this year is we had three original Minis and a Mini Clubman, and all of the drivers worked at Austin’s Longbridge plant, where the cars were built.

“It was a Mini celebration. We had all manner of cars, from a 1929 Rolls Royce, a 1973 Aston Martin, as well as other marques like Jaguar and Alvis, and an original Fiat 500.

“It was very busy, I’m delighted.”

Visitors to the show travelled between the stations using the historic train system

Mr Whale added: “All the proceeds will be going towards the works on the line.

“The railway needs as many funds as we can get at the moment because there’s massive engineering work going on in Arley and Bewdley.”
